I carved out this space on the internet to let my creative side—expressed through writing, photography, and single-pot spaghetti recipes—run free.

Runway 37 is for my aviation friends—I have three—, particularly those two who build and fly their own airplanes.

This website is a duty free zone so pick up something nice before leaving. Does if feel chilly in here? It feels a little bit chilly to me...

"Each time I read your work, you grab me by the collar and take me along, I'm RIGHT there with you. I truly hope one day you write a book."
~D. Johnson

"You could replace Peter Egan at Road and Track [magazine]."

My essay’s range in topic but have life as a steady undercurrent. A flying story may be about divorce. A travel story may be about an old man in a small-town diner with a new ear for his own stories. My open letter to Elvis is about all of us. The essays I share here come and go. Some strike out to find a larger audience in the bigger world. Some have already found that larger audience and have returned home. Some are happy staying put.

Runway 37

This section is targeted to aviation; specifically those intrepid souls who choose to build airplanes. Yes, real sit-in-it-and-fly airplanes. The content springs from my experience building and flying an airplane, and twenty years spent supporting other builders as Tech Support Guy at Sonex Aircraft.

I’ve had a camera in my hand since I was 14. It’s a semi-professional pursuit, which is to say I’ve made some money doing it, but that’s never been my….ah… focus. As with writing, it’s a creative outlet that forces me to see things beyond their face value.
